This controversial monument and statue honoring Louis Riel, founder of the province of Manitoba was unveiled at the legislature in 1970 to mark the centennial of Manitoba. It shows Riel in anguish and in bondage.
In 1991 representatives of the government and the Metis agreed to replace the statue with one more representative of Riel the statesman.
This statue was re-located to College Universitaire de St. Boniface in honor of one of its most famous students.
