This controversial monument
and statue honoring Louis Riel, founder of the province of Manitoba
was unveiled at the legislature in 1970 to mark the centennial
of Manitoba. It shows Riel in anguish and in bondage.
In 1991 representatives of the government and the Metis agreed
to replace the statue with one more representative of Riel the
statesman.
This statue was re-located to College Universitaire de St. Boniface
in honor of one of its most famous students.
